The Essence of the Scheme

Closed-Loop Recycling:

Saint-Gobain Glass and JCL Glass collaborate closely in the Cullet Recycling Scheme, facilitating a closed-loop system for glass waste. JCL Glass recycles all glass waste into cullet bags, which are then seamlessly collected by Saint-Gobain Glass. This cullet serves as a key raw material in the manufacturing of new glass products, ensuring that the glass industry operates in a circular and sustainable manner.
Collaborative Partnerships:
Central to the success of the Cullet Recycling Scheme is the collaborative partnership between Saint-Gobain, JCL Glass, and other businesses in the industry. Together, they work diligently to establish efficient collection systems and streamline the cullet supply chain. By leveraging each other’s strengths and expertise, they maximize the impact of their recycling efforts and create a more sustainable future for all.

Environmental Impact

Resource Conservation:
Through their partnership, Saint-Gobain significantly reduce the need for virgin raw materials in glass production. By incorporating cullet into the manufacturing process, they conserve natural resources and minimize the environmental footprint associated with glass production. Additionally, the energy savings achieved by using cullet result in reduced greenhouse gas emissions, further mitigating their environmental impact.
Waste Reduction:
The collaboration between Saint-Gobain Glass and JCL Glass contributes to the diversion of glass waste from landfills. Instead of discarding glass waste from production, JCL Glass recycles the glass into cullet bags, which is then utilized by Saint-Gobain Glass in the manufacturing process. This waste reduction strategy aligns with the principles of a circular economy, maximising the value of materials and minimizing environmental harm.

Join the Movement

Saint-Gobain Glass’s Cullet Recycling Scheme, in partnership with JCL Glass, is not just a program; it’s a movement towards a more sustainable future. By collaborating, businesses and communities can play a vital role in preserving the planet for future generations. Together, we can embrace the power of recycling and pave the way for a greener, more sustainable world.

Cullet types

There are three types of cullet depending on its origin, as defined by the
ISO 14021 standard:
Internal Cullet Icon

Internal Cullet

Cullet that comes directly from glass production. This type of cullet does not leave the flat glass making facility, it is directly recycled on the production lines.
Industrial Cullet Icon

Industrial Cullet

Glass waste coming from glass sheet processing and from products that have not yet been delivered to the final customer. This type of cullet can be found on coating lines and glass processing sites.
Post-Consumer Cullet Icon

Post-Consumer Cullet

Cullet generated after the delivery of glass to the end user. In the construction industry, post-consumer cullet mainly comes from the renovation and the dismantling of buildings. In the auto industry, it comes from the replacement of windscreens and the dismantling of cars at the end of their useful life.
